Below are some of the questions I get asked via email before couples have booked a face to face informal chat with me about their wedding photography. Many of the questions will be answered in our meeting, but here they are. After reading these if you would like to discuss my packages or to book your photographer, please check my availability, then go on to contact me from the next page. You can also contact me directly by email or phone and you can find these details in the contact us link at the top of the page.

Q: How far in advance of the wedding would we need to book you?
A: I only cover one wedding on any one day so, as soon as you know I’m the right photographer for you it’s time to book.

Q: When do we need to pay you?
A: One-third of your total package price is required to book me for your date. This booking fee is non-refundable. The final two-thirds are due one month before your wedding date.

Q: Do you stay until the end, just first dance or the wedding breakfast?
A: All my full day packages offer coverage from morning visit through to first dance, if you are having fireworks we will stay to capture those too.

Q: How many photographers will be with us on the day?
A: One photographer packages will be me on my own, two photographer packages will be me and normally my colleague David, but always two qualified, professional photographers.

Q: What time would you arrive?
A: Before I take a booking I arrange to meet my couples, at our meeting we will arrange a time that is right for you and your wedding.

Q: Can we have all the photo’s on the disk too? (Not a limited number of images)
A: I use memory stick for the large files, this is so you can print your images up to 16×20 inches in most cases. The memory stick also holds a license to print for home use, you can get your images printed at highstreet or pro labs. I only remove the technically incorrect images, overexposed, underexposed and where the bride or groom is blinking or I have caught the mouth in a non-flattering position, whilst talking etc. Aunt Flo sneezing in the background would be left in as would Uncle Tom with his tie in his soup.

Q: What style of photography do you specialise in?
A: I do make the occasional fashion shoot for my own work and I do work commercially for three main clients but I specialise in wedding photography. My wedding photography style has been described as a mixture of natural, reportage, original portraits, and key group pictures. My peers often refer to me as a friendly and professional photographer.

Q: Will we be able to have a meeting with you before the day to talk about what photos we would like? And how far in advance would this happen?
A: Yes, I insist on having a prebooking meeting with couples interested in booking my services, because I only cover one wedding in any one day I recommend booking your meeting as soon as you have a date and venue secured. We will arrange a follow-up meeting for about four weeks before your wedding to make any final changes if you need to.

Q: How many pictures will you take?
A: Each wedding is unique, different locations, different numbers of bridal party and guests, different group shots required, your own requirements from your couple portrait session, schedule of the day, etc. This makes a picture count hard to say. If I was to quote 600 images on the slideshow that would be about right for one photographer and about 1000 for two photographers. We make more images but edit out the technically incorrect ones, bride or groom blinking, far too light, far too dark, etc. Our philosophy is quality over quantity every time. Remember your wedding album is designed to hold between 44 and 125 images depending on your album choice.

Q: Will you visit the venue before the day?
A: Yes, before the wedding I drive the wedding route from my home to morning visit address, to service venue to reception venue. If I have not covered a wedding at any of your venues before I speak to staff to see where photographs are normally taken after which I walk around on my own making my own notes. When your wedding is at a venue I already know I still speak to staff and walk the venue just in case any new features have been installed.

Q: Should I pay for meals and travel expenses?
A: I always self cater at weddings, but thank you for the thought. If however one of your guests did not attend your wedding I would be happy to eat their meal in another room. Normal travel expenses are included in my rates so no additional fee is required. Please contact me if you are having a destination wedding. In fact, the only additional fee with my packages is if you would like the large files on the memory stick or individual reprints.

Q: Will you retain the copyright for the images?
A: I do retain copyright of all my work. If you are buying the large files on a memory stick you are given a license for home use and printing. If a photographer was to give you copyright you would own the work and could sell it or make them pay to use it. I only use images with the couples permission, it’s the last line in my contract.

Q: When will we receive the photographs?
A: I like to send you a link to your downloadable slideshow on your first day back from honeymoon. From the slideshow you pick the images for your album, when I get your image numbers back I start to design. I then send you an electronic proof for you to view and give me feedback, I make any changes you request and send the new proof for you to view and give me feedback. Only when you are happy with the design do I send to my printers.

Q: Do we need to come and collect the photos from you or will you deliver them?
A: If you live local enough I like to deliver your wedding album and join you in a cup of tea whilst you first view it. If that is not convenient you can pick it up from me or I’ll have your album couriered to you.

Q: How can my family and friends view and order the photographs?
A: You can send the slideshow link to anyone you like, I only send that link to the email address I have for bride and groom. I may also send a reprint order form. Your friends and family can order any images from the slideshow.

Q: Will you show us all the photos or just the best ones?
A: I remove all the technically incorrect images, overexposed, underexposed and where the bride or groom is blinking or I have caught the mouth in a non-flattering position, whilst talking, etc. Aunt Flo sneezing in the background would be left in as would Uncle Tom with his tie in his soup.

Q: What format will we receive the photos in (book, printed, cd)?
A: The package that you have chosen will determine the presentation you will receive. If you are choosing a 12×8 30side magnetic designer in champagne that is what you will receive. On the occasion that a couple want to upgrade album size, it is normally possible if my supplier has that album in stock. When I receive your deposit I order your album to ensure I have it for your wedding. Large files normally come on the memory stick as cd’s and DVD’s don’t hold many files at the size and quality that I produce.

Q: How much are your albums? And what packages to you do?
A: I offer several different albums, here are the most popular threeItalian Traditional Style Albums, A4 Luxury Storybooks and our very popular Magnetic Designer Wedding Albums. All packages offer full day with either one or two photographers which is stated and priced on the website page.

Q: How much input will we have into how the albums are designed?
A: You have as much input as you wish, short of sitting down with me. You would find that very boring. You choose your images for your wedding album from the slideshow I send you. When you have sent me the number I need I start the design. When I have the first draft I send you a slideshow proof of your album, you then view and supply feedback, as detailed as you think we need. I then make those updates and send you a new version, you view and supply detailed feedback, the review and update circle continues until you are happy with your design and you tell me that you are happy and we can go to print.

Q: How long will you keep the photos for after the wedding and can we make additional orders during this time?
A: I make two backup copies of your images on the night of your wedding, one at home and one is in a secure offsite server. When I have the final design of your album I also send that to my offsite server and back up to my databox. These servers are backed up regularly and although there is no cast-iron guarantee with any electronic data I should be able to get your files at any time in the future.

Q: Are you a full time professional photographer?
A: Yes and I have been since 2007

Q: What level of insurance do you have?
A: Public liability, public indemnity and equipment.

Q: Do you hold any qualifications or awards?
A: I hold a Licentiateship in the National Photographic Society and a first class degree in commercial photography.

Q: What would happen if the photographer was ill?
A: I can’t remember the last time I was ill enough to even consider not working. As a member of the NPS and having many friends who are also full-time professional photographers I’m pretty sure I could arrange someone almost as good as me for you.
